Standing Strong: Women's History Month & The Bones That Carry Us

Ladies, let's talk about the silent heroes that have carried women through history – our bones. While we celebrate the incredible women who've shaped our world this March, I can't help but think about the physical strength that supported their revolutionary acts. From Harriet Tubman walking miles through dangerous terrain to guide others to freedom, to Katherine Johnson calculating space trajectories by hand, to your grandmother who probably lifted children, groceries, and family burdens without complaint – women's bodies have quite literally carried history forward!
But here's the truth bomb – by 40, we're already starting to lose bone density, and women lose it faster than men. (Thanks, hormones!) After helping hundreds of women navigate their health journeys, I've seen how this sneaks up on us. We're so busy taking care of business, families, and everything else that we forget our frame needs maintenance too. That calcium supplement commercial showing an older woman breaking her hip? That story starts decades earlier, when we're still feeling invincible. The good news? Your bones are literally alive and responding to what you do today – from that morning coffee (maybe have it with calcium-rich milk) to how you carry your work bag (switch shoulders, friend!).
Just like the women we celebrate this month didn't accept limitations, you don't have to accept the "standard" bone health narrative. There's so much more to building strong bones than just calcium – we need to talk about vitamin D, weight-bearing exercise that actually fits into your life, and how your stress levels impact bone density.
